Facilitation and Professional Development

I enjoy teaching mathematics and developing new instructional skills. I've completed several professional development opportunities, including but not limited to:

  1. Math 599, a graduate course on teaching mathematics at the undergraduate level. (Winter 2017 Term 1).
  2. Instructional Skills Workshop, a comprehensive instructor development workshop designed to enhance the teaching effectiveness of both new and experienced instructors. (May 2018).
  3. Facilitator Development Workshop, a workshop designed to train facilitators for to run Instructional Skills Workshops. Following the workshop, I was hired as a facilitator for the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology at UBC. (December 2018).
  4. Developing Your Skills as a Peer Reviewer: Introductory Workshop, a short workshop that gives graduate students the skills they need to conduct formative peer reviews of teaching. Following the workshop, I was invited to be a graduate peer reviewer for the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology at UBC. (September 2019).

I now work with the education team in the UBC Math Department to design and maintain a professional development program for graduate teaching assistants and novice instructors. Our work on developing this program, specifically the aspects of community building in the program, was presented at the CMS Winter Meeting in December 2022.
